She loves art and design. She’s confident yet quirky, courageous and calm. She is effortlessly cool and seeks beauty and joy in the world around her …She is Felicity Cooney and she graduated with honours from New York’s prestigious Parsons. She was soon on the New York fashion radar with a look from her final year collection selected and displayed in Hugo Boss’ window in the infamous Meatpacking District.
The Felicity Cooney brand launched in May 2016, born from Felicity’s desire to hand-craft her own bespoke designs. Targeted toward fearlessly stylish and confident women of all ages, Felicity’s first range offers custom-made women’s and girl’s leather sandals and bags. Designed and hand-crafted in her studio in the small town of Woombye, located on the Sunshine Coast’s picturesque hinterland, Felicity uses an age-old technique of sketching, pattern-making and taping to a shoe last to create the different styles. The shoes are then digitally cut using a laser-cutter and are then assembled by hand. This process involves gluing, stitching, sanding, nailing and painting.
The Felicity Cooney brand focuses on creating sustainable, stylish fashion that comes from the craftsperson, not the sweatshop. The sandals and bags are made from kangaroo leather and cowhide that Felicity sources from a local Brisbane tannery. The current collection of sandals and bags are available through the online store where customers can watch first hand how the sandals are crafted. Felicity’s dream is to expand her offering and create more fashion-based pieces with the sandals being just the tip of the Felicity Cooney iceberg.
One day, Felicity hopes to see her unique designs stocked in select retailers around the world but will always remain true to her fervidly loved Australian heritage
